Can you think of any other controversial books that perhaps should be banned?

Should we stand by and watch while our youth are left defenceless against the holocaust deniers?

It's clear there is some sort of pecking order amongst the various minority groups to whom the lefties seek to pander.

My question is, what can be done about this nonsense?

One also wonders, if certain religions are so great, why wouldn't practicioners prefer to live somewhere where they take it seriously?

I wonder where it will all end!

Scary stuff by duxup (4.00 / 2) #1 Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 05:28:42 PM EST
I can understand having some sort of note regarding evolution that says some dudes don't believe this stuff for some reason, there you go.  That's about as far as I'm willing to go.

For holocaust deniers, I'd have some sort of note as well.  I'm not sure how it would go but my note would be something including the word dumbass.  It's not some nature of the world we live in or long ago event.  It's a horrible fucked up event that should teach us what humanity is capable and to keep an eye out for that shit.  You don't believe it?  Fine, truth to power bitches.

Why call the Holocaust deniers names? by chuckles (4.00 / 3) #2 Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 07:48:20 PM EST
Why not just refute their arguments with evidence?

Skateboarding is a crime.

I have my doubts as to how much of their belief is based on evidence... ideology maybe...

When I read someone 'debunking' the Holocaust by chuckles (4.00 / 2) #7 Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 09:07:30 PM EST

it is usually accompanied with some sort of factual /nevermind whether the facts are accurate.../ claim, like the logistics would have been impossible or a particular method of killing doesn't work in the way described. I'm guessing that a party more interested in the subject than me could refute these claims with evidence.

I bring this up because the response I often see to Holocaust deniers is something along the lines of "you are an asshole so please fuck off and die" which might be personally satisfying to the responder but doesn't exactly elevate the discussion.

Skateboarding is a crime.

I don't anticipate much success convincing anyone with actual evidence or "fuck off", but I do think "fuck off" wastes less energy.

Emotional appeals win out over cold hard evidence all the time and are often better to use, even if you have evidence.

Elevating a discussion is so rational enlightenment.

This one left me for dead on the side of the road when I was about 12, so I think it's best to get rid of it.

Irony: ammo says it's time. Tom is blocked.

in the Dallas paper yesterday. Apparently they now have a Friday call to (muslim) prayer and "women only" hours at one of the gyms, in order to appease muslim students. Better than having them blow you up, I suppose.
