One of the instructors punched me in the side hard enough that I felt it ripple through my body to the other side. One of the students nailed me with a huge round house to the neck.  Somewhere along the way I picked up a knot on my forehead, a swollen nose and I'm pretty sure my jaw was nearly dislocated. Towards the end of the hour I was literally staggering around ring, barely able to keep my arms up, let alone throw a punch or a kick.

I passed.

DRUNKEN FIST TECHNIQUE IS UNSTOPPABLE by Rogerborg (4.00 / 2) #3 Fri May 02, 2008 at 03:51:59 AM EST
Except, you know, with punches and kicks.  Or headbutts.  Guns, knives.  Crocodiles.

Congratulations!  If I know my canon, now will come the ninjas.

I don't I'll ever feel like a real "martial artist" but I never expected to make it this far, either.

There's a reason people respect the black belt by Breaker (4.00 / 2) #12 Fri May 02, 2008 at 08:30:50 AM EST
It's a tough exam, mentally and physically.  And there is usually blood (at least at the black belt gradings I saw, anyway).

So, a definite achievement you can justifiably feel proud of - they don't go handing black belts out, they are truly earnt.

How sore are you today?

At the moment, not too bad. by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #7 Fri May 02, 2008 at 07:31:50 AM EST
I really was worried about that punch to the neck, and my first swallow of beer nearly choked me - apparently that hit to the side really did move things around - but I'm to stiff or sore this morning. What I *am* is exhausted, I nearly fell over squatting down to plug in an AC charger and standing up again.

Lots of ibuprofen by wiredog (4.00 / 1) #9 Fri May 02, 2008 at 07:36:33 AM EST
Or rum. Or possibly ibuprofen washed down with rum.

Earth First!
(We can strip mine the rest later.)

and you're there - my favorite before bed cocktail: 2 advil and a shot of maker's mark.

Though last night I was slightly worried about the knot and the neck, so it was 3 advil and half a beer.

I'm not a doctor... by gzt (2.00 / 0) #13 Fri May 02, 2008 at 09:08:02 AM EST
...but I don't recommend mixing ibuprofen with rum. It's not as bad as tylenol or anything, but they're not great together. A better course of action is probably ibuprofen while at work, and when it wears off, rum at home.

Alcohol & Tylenol does liver damage by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #15 Fri May 02, 2008 at 09:19:43 AM EST
Alcohol & Ibuprofen can cause an  ulcer, if you're in the group who get irritated stomachs from taking ibuprofen in the first place.

But, yeah, it's not something I'd do every day.
